Could probably try to follow the DDR2 equivalent as well (667Mhz speed). That'd be huge for all the guys going DDR2!

Awesome, I loved the old thread because it provided a general feel for the market.

Maybe it's just me, but there are cheaper 1gb x2 pc3200 kits out there. Wintec, Super Talent, G.SKILL, A-DATA, pqi, Patriot...

I mean we're talking low-end ram here to begin with and they all have lifetime warranties. dunno just doesn't seem that *hot* to me I guess. 2x1gb ram @ 3-3-3-7 timings.

Is there something I am missing?

Now if we were talking about some low latency CAS2 or even 2.5 stuff with heatspreaders for this price, that indeed would raise my interest...

I think they thought it would be interesting to log the 2x1 gigs like they do the 2x512megs, but yes- I agree- this isnt hot.
The SuperTalents from ewiz(cas3 w/hs & very nice price!) and these at newegg (cas2.5 w/HS around $160shipped) are "hotter":

edit- heres the ewiz deal cas3 with heatspreader @$130+ship, minus various $5 off coupon codes found around

what?

I suggested possibly following the DDR2 variant, since a lot of guys on these forums use DDR2 now. I didn't think my post was that complicated...

Is it ok to have 2 1gig sticks with 2 512MB sticks?

I have an Asus A8N-E with 1gig of the CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory currently....

if your 512s are doublesided you will end up having to downclock to 333 and/or change to T2 timings due to memory controller limitations.

While DDR2 is quickly becoming the new standard, most PC's are still using DDR1. I picked DDR1 because many members asked for it, more than those asking for DDR2. Also, I know these are not considered a "hot deal" as such, but these threads serve more as a historical reference to help people gauge the marketplace fluxuations.

It's a good bit of work keeping these threads current. If anyone want's to step-up to the plate and start a DDR2 thread or a thread with better deals, please do so. I just don't have the time to maintain anything more than I'm doing.

Speed DDR 400 (PC 3200)

Doublesided?
T2?

I don't know... it's the same thing as this post is about.. only it's only 512MB each Dual Channel, instead of 1gig each Dual Channel..

My question is can i have 3gigs? or do i have to have 2 or 4 gigs?

doublesided= if there are ram chips on both sides of the dimms
T2 and T1 are ram timing settings. T1 is fastest, but most have to lower to T2 in order to run 4 dimms stable on athlon64 4dimm setups, and often times must also downclock to 333 Ram rate instead of 400.
Yes- you can do 3gig, but you will probably have to lose some RAM performance.

to someone who can't use ddr2 it was "that complicated". I have a 939 setup so....

I have some of this ram used for a bit less on my FS thread. Its very decent ram, I used it for a few months until I found some Pro Series that replaced it.
