Hi, Corsair just updated their system build reports and now has a $1500 "affordable gaming" PC (without OS, monitor, keyboard, speakers etc.). I'm looking at the exact same budget and looking to build a gaming system also.
I know there are multiple threads on $1500 gaming machines but I just like the idea of having a 100% step by step guide as this is my first build w/ overclocking and everything. They over clocked the system in this guide to 3500 MHz. Can I base my purchase completely off this guide or is there something you guys would change about the components they selected? Heres the guide but I've also included a list of parts they use. Thanks!

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300
eVGA 8800GTS 640MB
Tuniq Tower 120
Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard
Corsair HX520W modular power supply
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
2GB TWIN2X2048-6400C4D memory modules
Samsung 18X burner with Lightscribe
Lian-Li PC7B plus II computer case

Sure, why not? Add a sound card if you want, bigger or smaller or faster hard disk, different dvd burner, different case - none of these significantly affect oc'ing. However, don't vary any of the other components.

You aren't going to get that rig up to 3500MHz... in reality, that motherboard struggles with above 450FSB. Either get the DS3 instead, or change the processor to something with a higher multiplier (E6400).

Ah alrighty, don't know alot about overclocking. Just saw that corsair was able to pull it off with their system build but that's probably luck. I'll just go with the E6400. Thanks!

I'd not base my system around RAM, personally. Lurk a bit in this forum and the CPU/Overclocking and Motherboard forums and see what the latest and greatest is. Try and mix and match good recommendations to get the best bang-for-buck; all-in-one system recommendations are often lacking in one or more category.
