I just recieved my $30 rebate from 16DEC08 and its a Citi Bank Visa Card..

I tried to use it for full $30 amount and it was declined and they tried $25 and it worked...

I read the terms of this card and it seems I now have an account with Citi Bank and if I zero the account I will be changed $15 over draft

They have my name address and phone # and I am at risk of being changed $3.00 a month service change as well..

I can only guess thats why the $30 amount was rejected..

I just recieved two Cosair items this week and I am thinking of sending them back and thelling them to shove there rebates you know where..

I also have two other rebates pending with them and this is the worst scam I have ever heard of other than being stiffed completely...

The text with Terms and Condtions on back of letter is about font size 3 and the full page... All I can say is I am not to happy and will start buying from other makers after this deal.....

I might be in trouble then. I received $35 card, used it all and threw it out. However, from my understanding it's supposed to be a visa gift card, not an actual card with account tied to it.

I just got off the Phone with Citi CS

Just like a Gift Card...

Website to check Balance freaked me out with list of changes..

$3.00 SC per Month
$15 for Zero Balance
$25 or Over Draft

All that was right under my Balance :)

I am not happy that they know I ate at Red Lobster and had to agree to a huge list of BS

I guess they dont trust who is writing checks..

Monthy service charges on gift cards are illegal in my state. Was this promotion restricted to certian places in any way?

I created a Google Checkout account for the last two prepaid gift cards I received, and took the $.20 + 2% hit and charged them to my account. But now, Google Checkout raised their fees! >_<

I think you might be a little off here OP..

If you don't use the rebate card before 6 months, they charge $3 (fee) to the card. In short: use the card before 6 months is up.

OK....there is logic speaking :). They can't. Pure & simple.

I think the reason OP was authorized $25 not the full $30 was because he tried to use it at a restaurant. I've read before that prepaid giftcards often authorize only up to its 80% to 90% face value at restaurants to leave some rooms for tips etc.

But yea, I don't like these prepaid cards because 1)unlike with a check, I have to spend the money; 2) they can monitor where i shop; 3) I hate carrying extra cards in my wallet.

Wait, you get a rebate card for $xx but if you use it all they charge you? That's stupid... how do they charge you anyway?? Use it all, throw the card, and screw them...

I am a little confused here. I just got my Corsair "rebate" card for $20. After reading this I wanted to throw it away, but you are saying I can't. I must use it? And what about this "account" they automatically set up. How do I close it?

Is this rebate done by Corsair, or by newegg or some other vendor?

Stuff like this is why I ignore rebates.

I got one from Corsair.

It's a gift card...no account is made....they will start charging a service fee after 6 months.

I added it to my Paypal account and spent the whole thing on the first purchase.

If you read the instructions that come with the card, it gives all the info. :Q

Exactly. The instructions for the ones I just got from Symantec even say

"At Restaurants:
Please be aware that restaurants often authorize an additional temporary 20% gratuity charge to your bill. The actual charge will be the price of the meal plus the gratuity that you add."

Wondering about some of the supposed terms of being able to overdraft. I thought that wasn't possible with a pre-paid card, but something that happened to mine has me scratching my head.

My Corsair pre-paid card was for $45.00.
I spent $25.73 at Staples, leaving $19.27
I spent $10.48 at Target, leaving $8.79.

Yet Target's POS system printed out on my receipt that I had a balance remaining of $9.52!!! (A difference of $0.73.)

Why is Citibank apparently giving me an extra $0.73? Or is that really a trick, such that I will overdraft my card, and then get charged an extra fee? It sounds totally sneaky to me.

So with the ambiguity of my remaining balance, I spent $8.00 on gas (pre-paid authorization), leaving me (according to my calculations) $0.79 left on the card. Of which I will not spend, and will just leave it for Citibank to collect as profit as my card ages.

I had a $50 and $15 Corsair GC from Citi. They are a pain in the ass, but I found the best way to use them was at the grocery store. Just tell the cashier you want to use multiple cards, have her take the full amount out of the Corsair card, and then pay the difference with your personal credit card. This way you ensure you get every cent from those idiots. Worked flawlessly both times.

I just got a $20 card from Corsair, so I tried to use it...

Asked the cashier to charge $20 on it... Declined...what the hell?

So i said screw it and paid in cash, when I got home I logged in to check the balance and saw:

4478053 LORDCO PARTS LTD LORDCO PARTS LTD. # KELOWNA BC CA (30 day hold) (Req=-19.41 Adj=-20.09) - insufficient funds for -20.09
