Corsair RAM with i845G: PC2700, PC300,or PC3200

Had been waiting for an Asus P4S8X, but am probably moving on...

I'm going to be purchasing an Abit BG7 or MSI 845G Max-L motherboard within a week and am looking for the best RAM to pair up with it. I want stability out-of-the-box with a P4 2.26Ghz CPU, as I will start with no OCing, and build-up/test over time. There's a good chance for the time being I may stick with stock speeds---don't know yet, might be persuaded/ambitious to aim higher.

I'm thinking I'm going with 512MBs of Corsair RAM. My question is, what kind:

PC2700 CAS2.0 ($171@Googlegear)
PC3000 CAS2.0 ($189@Googlegear)
PC3200 CAS2.5 ($189@Googlegear)
PC3200 CAS2.0 (>$209 @ other places. Probably too pricey for me, anyway...)

Your thoughts?

they are all the same stuff... the only difference is how fast you will be able to run them

if you plan on doing no overclocking... or if you plan on doing some modest overclocking the pc2700 will be fine

if you plan on doing some major overclocking then the faster the better (cas2 pc3200)

Assuming I use one of the mobos mentioned, how would you define modest/major overclocking?

I'm relatively inexperienced with overclocking. My only previous experience was with the ol' Celeron 300a, overclocking it to 450Mhz. Really, though, it doesn't get much easier than that...

Thanks for your help.

memory bus anything up to and including 166mhz (default will be 133mhz) is what i meant by a modest overclock

pc2700 is rated for 166mhz and most times can go a little higher

Peel off the Heatspreaders and you will find Samsung chips. Do you think Samsung sells its 'Prime' chips to Joe's Generic Chipmaker?
Save yourself the extra bucks and just buy the OEM Samsung, thats what you'll get anyway.

Mr. Spock, there's no inteligent life on this planet . . .
