Hi there, I have a Corsair CX 430 PSU in my computer, and it works just fine as a power supply, but it's really noisy. And I'm not talking about fan noise, I'm talking about a high-pitched whining noise that sounds like it's probably coming from some of the capacitors charging/discharging inside the unit. Usually this noise is only present when the system has been shut down or suspended (which means I have to switch off the power supply switch whenever I'm not using the computer), but today when I booted it the whining noise was still present - even as I am typing this. I have to assume this isn't normal behavior for a PSU - I've never heard another computer make this sort of noise - so I can only assume I have a faulty PSU, but I wanted to know if any other Corsair PSU owners have a similar experience.

tl;dr does your Corsair power supply make irritating whining noises?

I've got a TX750v2 that's been in use for about 2 months... no whine.

For that matter... I have an old Dell desktop that's 6 years old with a cheezy 305w PSU... and it doesn't whine.

I would contact Corsair.
 
I have the same psu with the same sound. I only hear it when the computer is off. It has been working fine but I do admit at first I thought it was DOA. No issues so far.
 
I have a CX430V2 in my main computer, and the whine is present only when I shut down the computer...

I have another CX430V2 in my ITX build, and there is no whine whatsoever from that unit...
 
Corsair 650TXv1 in my machine that'll be running for two years as of next month, never had coil noise or anything of the sort.
 
Have you tried unplugging power, then hitting the power button a couple of times?
This is right up there on the troubleshooting check list.

Anyway my notebook power brick also is buzzing, when there is no load. More importantly after switching off power noise slowly "winds" down, changing the pitch, which indeed would indicate that capacitors are involved.
 
AX 750 here and its super quiet, when my machine is idling you would think its not on.

However this unit isn't in the same price bracket as your model and internal component should be of higher quality.
 
I've bought 5x CX430s and returned 4 of them. One of them produced intermittent screeching sounds. The rest were acceptably quiet, though very slightly noisier than the old VX range.

Otherwise, I've recently purchased a GS600, TX650v2, and TX650M. All noisier than the old VX and the CX ranges, but no problems, they're all borderline acceptably quiet IMO. I'm sticking to Antec HCG PSUs for the foreseeable future, as they're quieter IMO.
 
Apparently Corsair replace PSUs that make whining noises such as this, but unfortunately I think I've probably voided my warranty because I had to cut open the cladding of the PCI power connecter to get it to fit between the end of my graphics card and the drive cages.
 
Yeah, that model Corsair PSU is more value and budget friendly. Anyways, my Seasonic internals Corsair TX650 V2 definitely doesnt make any noise, but ive also only owned it for maybe 5 months.
 
Contact their support on their forums, maybe they can cut you a deal on a replacement? I've owned an HX 520 for coming up on 5 years now without any issues. Have never heard any noise from it and it has been powered on 24/7 (but idle most of the time).
 
Sometimes PSU make noise when soft-off because you have PCIe or USB devices using a certain amount of 5VSB power. As a workaround you might try plugging some (more) into a powered USB hub, or if the motherboard has a 5VSB /5V jumper to control which rail power goes to the USB ports, switch the jumper location.
 
No problems here with my TX750 V2. I don't really notice that it's running either, but that's probably because my system never draws over 300W.
