Not sure if the corsair tx750w is better/worse then the pc power cooling Silencer 750 Quad?

I read that the pcpc is 1 1/2" longer then normal because of cooling design

80plus.org certifies both as 80+ eff
Both have good reviews for stable voltage

both have good deals today at new egg

see here side by side spec/price
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...9006%2CN82E16817341011

Need to choose today to get those prices unless someone knows of better prices elsewhere that I didnt find

I'd go for the corsair personally. 4x 6+2 PCI-e instead of 2x 6+2 and 2x 6 pin. Larger fan for quietness, and smaller form factor. $30 more after rebates, but you can never count on them so I never base a purchase off of rebates I *might* get

How about this BFG ES-800 for $65.99 shipped (after $40 MIR) if you buy on 12/19 with Paypal (coupon for $15 off $75).

Excellent reviews and personally recommended by AT's PSU forum mod jonnyguru. Lifetime warranty.

Coupon info Link

I just got mine btw, but only had it running for ~6 hours or so so can't really comment on it much =) So far so good, can't hear it at all.

BFG is a real fine company at with the addition of jonnyGuru they are even that much more of a good company!

Yet at this moment I would go with Corsair or PC Power & Cooling first!
With that sai I am not going to say I would never purchase a BFG PSU....you just never say never!!

This actually does look like a pretty good deal for a much more powerful PSU -- 800W!
The reviews at Newegg are pretty positive... not perfect, but pretty good.

Hey, OCNewbie, can you provide the link to where JonnyGURU recommended this PSU, and the excellent reviews you mentioned?

Thanks!

YES jonny is an employee of BFG!!
But from what I understand in doing so the jonnyGURU.com is just that JonnyGURU.com in name only!! Jonny has nothing to do with the reviews or the running of that site!!

Also JonnyGURU. himself is a class act and probably one of the fairest people to ever review a PSU!!

Definitely Corsair 750TX,twice larger fan/quiter noise level, plus 4x6+2 pins,I myself is running one with my i7 overclocked to 3.8Ghz and a GTX 260 c216 overclocked, been having problem even starting a game with the Hec 750W before, once I swapped it out for this Corsair 750TX,everything has been running flawlessly now,and i have yet to hear any sound at all from the 750Tx.

pc pwr cooling reviews say that the ps is very quiet as long as your not over 80% load, when under its nearly silent

If you want silence, you really should consider the BFG ES-800 I linked earlier. I haven't found a bad review on it yet, in fact they're all pretty much excellent. Can't think of anything it's lacking, save for a modular design if that were preferred/desired.

From the Hardocp review on silence:

The BFG ES-800 features a 138mm fan that can start at voltages as low as 3v, and it is coupled with a unit that has excellent efficiency so things are certainly starting off in a ?can't lose? situation in regards to the noise output from this unit. As it turns out, that was indeed what happened, the unit was quiet and by quiet it was subjectively quieter than any 800w unit we have had in for testing to date by a wide margin. Furthermore, subjectively, this unit was one of the quietest units we have tested to date at any power level. Users seriously considering a quiet power supply for just about any application should seriously look to the ES-800 as its feature set resulted in a power supply that quite simple was the sound of silence.

The AT review was posted 10/30/08, that's hardly "years". Not to mention, most review sites that have the right equipment to test a PSU properly are going to have much better information about the actual quality of the PSU compared to other PSU's in it's wattage/price range. I'm glad that your unit has powered up your system and allowed you to OC, etc., but I don't think that alone signifies a high-quality PSU.

I'm not saying the 750TX isn't a capable PSU, and neither did AT. I was just trying to point out that there are other options out there that are both cheaper AND have better reviews. A quote from the Hardocp Review:

The Corsair TX750W represents a solid PSU value for those that need a lot of power. It is a good power supply, just not a great one.

I think AT is generally considered one of the most trustworthy review sites on the net. Have a look around, and you'll see that most of the reviews on the 750TX point out a number of flaws, mostly minor, depends on your application.

And it still won a Gold award. Why? because a normal user isn't likely to load the 3.3V or 5SB rail high enough to experience that ripple...as is even stated in the article.

The ES-800 is all about providing maximum power on the 12V rails...and that is what modern systems draw the most from anyway.

This is the only review that I've seen that has measured these rails THAT high, and only near maximum output. Nevertheless, they gave it an excellent rating. I think that most people that will be running consistently near this units peak of ~800 watts should probably be looking into a more powerful PSU anyway.

Look guys, I'm pointing out the facts. Remaining biased towards your favorite component doesn't help anyone.

Will the user run into problems? most likely not

Can the user run into problems? yes

then why do you insist on pimping PC Power and Cooling?

You want a fact? The ripple on FSP units like the StealthXstream in your signature is much more notorious than the ripple on either the Corsair TX750 you keep insulting or the ES-800

Read my new post in "Will this 750W PSU suffice with my XFX GTX260 c216?". The ripple isn't bad at all in the StealthXStream as long as you don't run SLI. Even then it is way below spec. Either way I don't care since it works well and wasn't expensive. I had it before this build and until I upgrade my videocard and find a PSU that I'm satisfied with I'll stay with it. I really, really liked the OCZ EliteXStream 800W but the reviews on NewEgg kept on saying it would fail after a week.

Never listen to newegg reviews...that is all there is to say about that.

The TX750's ripple is also within spec...yet you chose to constantly degrade it in the other thread.
