I just received the month's Maximum PC issue.
They've reviewed the Corsair Hydro H105, and while it's not a "Kick-Ass 9" they gave it a "9." There are reasons I take Max PC's reviews with a grain of salt without consulting second opinions or second comparisons, but I don't doubt their results on this one -- considering that they compare it only to other similar products: the Nepton 280L, CM Glacier 240L -- Oh! I was wrong there! -- the Hyper 212 EVO.
In their test-bed, the load-temperature comparison shows the Hydro H105 besting the Hyper 212-EVO by 0.8C and 4C respectively in "quiet" and "performance" modes.
How can this be? I'd seen temperature scores of some coolers in the comparison (Nepton for instance) showing more like a 10C advantage over heatpipe coolers that trump the 212 units easily. The idle temperatures and "load ambient" temperatures do not wildly vary among the test subjects.
So I'll reverse my first remark about "doubts." They say the H75's big brother is "not too shabby," but I can't see from their numbers that it beats any of the comparison units -- except the EVO by a hair!
It's just pretty limp justification for a "9" unless the "improvements" are measured in dBA. And -- they pretty much are.
