Hi guys,

I have the HX750i and I'm using all five of the SATA power connectors (5 drives).

However I also need to provide power via SATA to the RGB controller in my Cooler Master H500M.

Is it possible to plug one of the SATA power cables into one of the spare PCIE slots or will that provide too much power?

I assume not, and if that is the case, what sort of options are there?

Appreciate any input.

You have 15 SATA drives? You're using all five sockets for SATA ports, and each cable plugged in should have 3 SATA leads each, if not more. You really have that many drives?

PCI-E and CPU +12V (4+4) power is +12V only! Don't plug a SATA lead cable into those ports!

Get a SATA power splitter cable if you have to.

Thanks for your resposne!

No, but I have custom ordered cables with only one connector on each. (I find the cables, including the stock ones, too difficult to maneuver and plug in when they have multiple connectors.) I have 5 drives all together.

Good to know - thank you.

I think I may need the power splitter cable you mentioned. Can you buy any or should I see if CableMod (where I'm ordering) has them?

Well, hmm. That seems kind of a waste!

Guess it's time to order more custom cables, this time with more connectors.

Edit: My "server" has 8x2TB Hitachi HDDs, and I have only two strands of four SATA connectors each, plugged into two modular ports, on my (gasp) RaidMax PSU. All of my drives are in a drive cage / array, so the two strands were fine, each plugs into every-other drive.

I think doing it like that works well if you have them setup in a cage / array like you mentioned. In my case, I don't think it'd work so well. I have four SSDs, two in one location side by side, and two in another side by side. They're too close together to fit in the plugs properly. Using the stock cables were impossible -- maybe custom cables with two connectors would be a bit easier, but it'd suck if it didn't work.

EDIT: I'm looking at some custom cables which have two connectors - 10 CM apart. That sounds like it could work. Thanks for the help!
