1. Which is the better buy?

Jonnyguru thinks the antec is the best value.

2. Does anyone know how many wires are hardwired to the Antec tp 650?

I would like to know this if it should be considered modular like hx650.

Oh, the price difference for me would be $10(hx650 is more) so price isn't really a factor but I am trying to get the best product even if it is cheaper.

So far with my research, I believe the antec is a better unit with the exception of modular design. The answer to question 2 will really help me decide more than anything as I trust jonnyguru reviews. I am getting a pretty small case (cooler master 690 ii advanced) so I don't want alot of wires to trouble me on my first time building.

8 cables are hardwired on the Antec

ATX cable
A molex string with 3 connectors
Floppy connector
SATA string with 3 connectors
8 pin CPU
4 pin CPU
2X 6+2 pin PCI-E cables

Actually, the floppy connector is just an extension off the Molex cable.....so there are really only 7 hardwired cables, but still too many, esp. given that an 8 pin EPS and 4 pin ATX cable are both hardwired into the power supply.

And I cannot comment on the HX650 as I don't have one of those nor the TPN-650. But I have a TPN-750 and a 620HX and 850HX, and much prefer the Corsair units to the Antec.

True, the Antec TPN units are great values but the excess cabling is a drag and the Corsairs have a longer warranty and much easier to manage flat cables for the modular ones.

$120 for the HX650 is a great deal, considering the quality. I really like mine, going modular made a huge difference inside my case.

I have the Antec TPN-750 in my gaming rig and it is a awesome PSU and a stellar deal for the $92 I got it for. The amount of wires that are hardwired are a tiny bit excessive as I do not use the standard molex connections, but since my Antec P180 has good cable management, the couple extra wires do not get in the way at all.

But the Corsair units are also excellent and if $10 is the only cost difference for you, I'd go with the HX just because of the fully modular design and equal performance for the most part.

Thanks for all the help guys, I think I'll be getting the hx650 for its fully modular design. Now I'm gonna pray I don't loose those unused cabled :)
