Corsair HS1A headset so quiet.....

So I got a good deal on a hs1a headset a few days ago, and couldn't wait to get the thing to replace my old JVC headphones that intermittently cut out in one ear. I'm so disapointed in how quiet the hs1a is. I have tried using them with my realtek onboard 889 for my computer, and also with my 400 watt amp in my living room, and I can barely get any sound? For what its worth, the sound I do get in games is clear, precise, but completely lacks any sort of bass definition or volume.

Are any other users having similiar problems? Now I realize that a discrete sound card would improve things, but the thing is I can plug my 8 yr old 50 dollar JVC headset into the exact same card, and the exact same amp, and I am DEAFENED by the sound and have tons of bass. I absolutely love how the Corsair set looks and feels, is built like a rock, but why is it so bloody quiet?

Three possibilities:
(a) Your hearing is damaged by the JVCs
(b) You've got the volume on the headset turned down
(c) The Corsair have a higher impedance than your JVCs. This is part of what makes them have more precise frequency response, but also means that you have to give them more power to get the same amount of volume. A headphone amp is what you need.
