Hi guys,

I'm planning to buy a corsair liquid cooler.I have small confusion in choosing the models(h60 or h70 or h80).I'm normal pc user and not interested in overclocking. Please suggest me any one of the above cooler which provides good performance and has less noise levels and also with a decent price.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

System Specs:

Intel i7-950
Asus Sabertooth x58
Cooler CM 690 II Cabinet

Liquid cooling=not the best bang for buck

they all make noise, people being that running water will make their rig quieter but it actually doesnt.

i would suggest you would go with an air cooler, like the A70

Depends on the unit and whether you get one of the bad runs of pumps (Nov 11) that should be cleared up on almost all retailers.

There are several advantages. 1. They don't dispense any heat (well not much) into the case 2. Like all units fan choices matter. If your sticking 2 none PWMN (might not be the right acronym), on a NH D-14 and are not careful which ones then they are going to be. The H80 and H100 have built in fan controllers to again spin down even the loudest fans if the CPU is cool enough. 3. Like all the rest while the H80 and H100 come with pretty great fans, you can get better ones, again increasing performance or lowering noise. 4. The H100 even has the option for 4 fans. 5. They don't limit the choices you make on Mobo or Memory, sure air coolers can be great, but the quieter the fan the more likely the the unit is going to be some 4 lb behemoth that will have to sprawl across your motherboard, covering things all willy nilly.

While I agree its often cheaper and in the end better to go with an Air cooler supreme cooling or supreme quietness. There are tons of reasons to look towards a AIO self contained water cooler.

To the OP I would go H80. Higher compatibility less trouble to install and comes out of the box closer to max performance then the rest, easier to manage and better self controlled. I would even go that over the H100. Because I would be to tempted to get either 2 more fans or replace the set.

Just as well give my experience. I have a H70 hooked up to my rig and I really like it. With the stock fans it was a few degrees cooler than my Noctua setup, but they are a little noisy. Noctua fans would whine on the push fan but were ok with the lowest resistor. Had some Scythe S-Flex fans and use them with low resistors because they ain't brown. Still idle below 30C if temp is 70F. 65C stressed. Actually my video cards are noisiest thing in my system. I use the H70 mainly because I like the clean look.

The fans on my H100 are loud even on medium setting. I have to run on low to not notice them.

I havent had a chance to mess with it, but I did initially try to plug the H100 rad fans directly into my mobo fan headers. Booting up that way ran them at max rpm (jet engine). I tried creating a profile in Asus utilities, but it was ignored. (may have done it wrong)

Just saying that liquid cooling still uses fans, and the fans are what makes noise, not the HS or pump. That said, my H100 is a champ performer. Have my OC set higher than air cooled and its running cool.

See that is why I like the H80, stock you now have both manual and auto fan speed management meaning for a majority of the time its quiet. Outside a bad pump, its noise level issues would be the same as any air cooler for all of them and that is the fan choice. With the H80 and H100 it makes that less of a worry. They seem pretty good out of the box and unless way overclocked and running a game they won't be going full whine. The H80 seems like it would be the best out of box experience with it having a full allotment of fans, where as the 100 only needs the 2, installing 4 would be tempting.

H60 would suit you fine. H70 was replaced by the H80 and you shouldn't need either.

But as others have said best bang for buck with cooling is a good air cooler so I would choose one of those instead.

+1 on air cooling. I have seen very little advatage of pre packaged liquid compared to a good quality air cooling. Depends on your case & air flow, but I would never bother with water cooling when a nice air cooler is comparable.

I have a H60 on my 3820 @ 4Ghz and it never goes above 52C at full LinX load. And it runs at 26C idle. I purchased the H60 for $54 on sale and it was the best investement I made on cooling. It is quiet enough for me and I didn't even need to change out the stock fan.

Previously I had a Zalman air cooler on there that cost me about the same money. I noticed an 8C difference going to the H60. I could not be happier.

If you really want one of those coolers and you don't oc then just get the H60. They will all handle a non oced cpu.
