I just finished my new build and I'm a little disappointed with the noise level of the H100. It does a great job at cooling, 30 degrees idle and ~55-60 with load, but the fans are a lot louder than I thought they would be. Maybe I made a wrong assumption but I thought that a water cooled system would be quieter than the air heatsink I had on my previous CPU. I've been reading and a lot of people have swapped out the fans for COUGAR CF-V12HPs but I'm also now concerned that maybe I should just go back to air cooled. In the process or researching the noise I've read a few horror stories of these Corsair cooling solutions leaking. I know that these are a small percentage of failures but it does scare me a bit. I have my 3930k overclocked to 4.5Ghz, fairly easily by the way, so I want to make sure anything I get can handling the OC.

Yeah, I guess it was a bad assumption on my part. I still think I'm going to grab a couple of these Cougar fans to help with the noise.

The Corsair fans are fine if you can fiddle with the voltages. They require a lot of juice to get their blades spinning but you can reduce the voltage quite a bit before the motor will be unable to keep them turning. I did that with my H100 until the pump started giving me the noises.

FWIW, I was going to pick up two Gentle Typhoons for my H100 if I didn't send it back. Plenty of RPM flavours to choose from, handle undervolting nicely, iirc they're FDB and reasonably high static pressure for their RPM and decibel output.

What cooling did you end up with?
