W7 Ult

I pressed start menu and started typing to search something, and windows explorer seemed to have frozen up for a second and I heard a sound coming from my case. I'm guessing it's my 120gb ssd or 1tb hdd.

Most likely my ssd, because that's where windows 7 is installed.
My HDD just has mostly games.

is this normal?

You think your SSD is making noise? o_O

No, it's not normal. Also, your thread title is very misleading.

I highly doubt that it was your SSD. I don't think there is even enough stuff in there to induce a coil whine much less anything else. I suspect that your HDD spun up when starting the search. The delay was waiting for your HDD to get up to speed.

Well, is that normal or should I be worried?

I forgot to mention my 120gb ssd is corsair force gt and my 1tb hdd is caviar green WD. is caviar green that slow?

Yes, the green drive will be slow, especially if it has spun down or the head has been parked. The SSD will spoil you and you don't realize how slow the spinner is.

Ahh okay. Will this have any performance hits on my gaming at all, or is it only in windows-operating things? I'm fine with windows searching and stuff being a little slower, but if it hits my games too hard I might just return it for a black. also, I put all my games on the green and drivers and stuff on the ssd.
