Corsair CX750M or Thermaltake Smart Series 750W?

I was looking at the following two because I bought the CX600M from Tiger Direct so I can only exchange for another PSU there, any thoughts? I am trying to stay under the $100 mark.

Crosair CX750M

Thermaltake Smart Series 750W

I am limited to Tiger Direct due to having an opened product. So in store exchange is my only option which stinks. Their selection is fairly limited especially with modular.

Do you actually need 750 watts? Since money is tight, higher quality lower watts is better than lower quality higher watts.

The problem is that in store, they do not have any PSU under 600W unless it is the Corsair CX600M. I have read a lot of bad stuff with the CX600M + the +12V won't handle my GTX770.

Where did you get that it won't handle a GTX770? The CX600 has 46A in the 12 V rail, enough for 2 GTX670 in SLI or 2 HD7950s in crossfire

OP: You read a lot of misinformation then. A CX600M can handle ANY single card with ease.

I was reading on another forum of a few people complaining.

How is the CX series quality wise as I keep seeing all kinds of differing opinions and should I be looking at the HX possibly?

I initially liked my Corsair CX500 but the fan has been a letdown after a year of usage. There's a persistent ticking noise coming from the PSU which I am sure is caused by the fan, sleeved Yate Loon IIANM. Not sure if the same fan is used on the CX750 but I'm less inclined to purchasing another Corsair or at least their CX series.

Try looking if there's any Seasonic PSUs with ball bearing fans.

I thought I had read somewhere that the CX750M was using some different components than the rest of the CX series.

Corsair doesn't mention of the use of a ball bearing fan in their website but they do with their higher end units. Its a good selling point to list the fan type like Seasonic do on their X series with Sanyo Denki fans.

My Corsair CX500 works flawlessly except for the fan portion which is a shame as I have had cheaper and older PSUs that doesn't come with a faulty fan. Also, I own sleeve bearing fans(Noiseblocker XLP), still as quiet as the first day I bought it.

Still too early to know whether yours would have the same problem that mine is having but I do know that my next purchase would be one that comes with a ball bearing fan.
