Hello!

Not 100% sure which one I should get, at the moment it is only a $4 difference (shipping) between the two.

CX430 is $49.99 - $10MIR + $4 shipping
CX500 is $59.99 - $20MIR + $8 shipping

System is for my friend, the rest will be:

i3-2100 3.1ghz
8gb G.Skill Ram
Radeon HD6850 GPU
1TB HDD
CD Burner
3-4 case fans

Is there even a point to have the extra 70W?

Thanks for any help, I just need a nudge before I click buy...

If the difference is just $4 in the end, definitely get CX500.

Consider also XFX Core 650W for $55 AR. (If in the states, $50 AR.) About twice as strong +12V rail than that of the CX430, better efficiency, Seasonic-built, 5 year warranty. This one will last across many builds for years to come, can run even SLI/crossfire.

EDIT: or XFX core 550W $45 AR if ordering from .ca

He doesn't need more then that 500w ,, as the i5 takes low TDP. Video card is fine, unless you wan't to do SLI , which would be pointless as your CPU would bottleneck. If your going SLI you need a 2500 sandy with a 5xx series card. gl

Add another $10 shipping to that XFX, and it's gonna be $65.. For really unnecessary wattage, since my friend is not a computer techy guy or an upgrader, he just wants to play BF3 and racing games with me :)

-edit-

Definitely no SLI/XFire.

I just wonder what's more efficient, 430 or 500? Or just go 500 so it never works as hard?

Obviously not, but the PSU is a long term investment. Worth paying $10 more IMO if it'll last across many builds.

$10 shipping? Ouch. Wasn't sure if it's from .ca, it's free shipping from us.ncix.com. Anyway, CX500 gets my vote

True, however, PSU's have a lifespan of 5-8 years usually (possibly more for higher quality) which is about as long as the current computer would last :)

I have a machine with slightly more power hungry specs than this, and it works fine on a Corsair CX430... for now at least.

Long lifespan or not, a lower wattage PSU may need to be replaced because of its limited wattage when upgrading

Cancel your order? If you don't need a new PSU, you should spend that money on something else IMHO (like that AM2 CPU upgrade...)

Gah, the curse of a great deal...

Just trying to think of who else is going to ask me to build them a computer... I'm pretty sure it's gonna happen :ninja:

Hehe. Well, just because something is on sale, doesn't mean you have to buy it. Especially if you already have said thing!

ATTAboy, low cost quality parts are never a waste(except buying RAM last year). Wish I'd stocked a couple HDDs.

Me too!!!! Fook! I'm really lucky that I bucked up and bought a 7200rpm drive for my computer so I created a spare (WD Green 1TB)... Gonna sell that one to my friend's build for what I paid almost 2 years ago!

Me too. Well, turns out I already have six 2TB 5400RPM HDDS new/unused from hot deals a few months ago. Then again, I am in the middle of building my NAS box and will probably use 4 of those drives.
