Okay...

So far the ASUS P4B266-C looks like the mobo to get for the 1.6, now what ram do i need to get to at least try to get 2.4ghz? Is 2100 ddr okay? or do i need faster ram? Please give me a few model numbers and brands.

Thanks

right now im looking at getting some CORSAIR 2700 since it is $40 cheaper then the 3000. That should matter with the speed that I get out of the 1.6ghz right? Also... if I where to get some 2100 ddr what speeds could i expect?

Thanks

Let's see, 2.4 GHz / 16 = 150 MHz. Though Crucial PC2100 (rated for 133MHz) will most likely get you there PC2700 (rated for 166 MHz) is rated for that speed. People have been raving about Samsung PC2700 lately. If you want 512 MB sticks, the Corsair XMS sticks are also supposed to be very good 🙂

*edit* By Samsung PC2700 I mean Samsung chips on a Samsung PCB. they are sometimes referred to as "Samsung Original" sticks

Crucial PC2700 512 ~$200??? <--- doesn't have much reviews cause it just came out, but from it's little bro's PC2100 performance, there should be no problem...DDR400???
Samsung PC2700 512MB ~$150 <--- make sure it's the original, do not get the 3rd party manufacturer...get the Samsung manufactered ones...DDR400+
Corsair XMS PC2700 512MB ~$200 <--- great overclocker according to THUGSROOK...DDR400+
Another memory you can consider is the Mushkin Hi Performance PC2100 512MB Level 2 CL 2-2-2 ~$200+ <--- Read a review saying DDR400+

My 256meg stick of Crucial 2100 has been awesome. It will run 2 2 2 6 (read somewhere that the Active Precharge Delay doesn't make much if any difference with speed, but can determine stability so I never run it at 5) at 176 (highest I can make it go with my P4B266-C using the 3:4 timing at 132). It passed an hour of Memtest with no errors. But as in all overclocking cases, YMMV.
