Hello

I have a question about the Corsair Carbide 300R case. Corsair won't guarantee me a mini ITX motherboard will fit, yet Anandtechs review states that the mini ITX form factor is supported.

I have an ASUS P8Z77I-Deluxe mini ITX motherboard.

Glaringly obvious but necessary question: why are you considering an ATX case for your ITX motherboard?

I have a Bitfenix Prodigy, but my cable management is sh*t and case isn't that slim as I expected it to be. (Sold CM II 690 Advanced 3.0 and ATX motherboard) The other option I have is the Fractal Design Core 3000, but I prefer the Corsair case.

I read that mATX is backwards compatible with ATX and mini ITX is backwards compatible with mATX, so logically mini ITX should fit ATX?

Whether an ATX case is compatible with an mATX or an ITX motherboard really just depends on whether it has the necessary mounting holes, and not all do. Where are you planning to buy from? Or are you getting the case by other means

Online I guess, it's cheaper :) Well my frustration is Corsair won't explicitely guarantee it, yet Anandtechs review state ITX form factor. (Check)

Based on the pictures it doesn't look like mini-itx is supported. Look at the motherboard standoff holes.

I thought it worked like in this image with the holes lining up. Maybe not?

According to this document, which contains the same diagram shown above, the Mini-ITX mounting hole pattern is a subset of ATX mounting holes.

well, according to the corsair website here, it only supports mATX and ATX, I had thought it was like posted above, mITX was a subset of the other two.

Got a reply from Dustin (wrote Anandtech review)

Hi Tom,

If it supports ATX or Micro-ATX, it supports mini-ITX.

-Dustin

@Carson Dyle; so it should fit according to you?
@Dawp; that's what I expect too, I just don't understand why Corsair won't guarantee it? It should be backwards compatible with mATX, so eitherway it should fit (imho).

It will work. Almost every aftermarket motherboards would have standard mounting holes for aftermarket cases.

In this photo of the 300R, see the upper left-most four mounting holes? Mini-ITX. The same four holes are uses to mount most (all?) ATX and microATX motherboards.

Here I fixed it. :awe:

See those motherboard mounts that I indicated in red? THOSE fit mini ITX. I guarantee it, or your money back (what you paid for my post). ():)

I was wondering about the discussions above re putting a mini-ITX into an mATX case.
I/O shield question.
I guess you're saying that mini-ITX and mATX and ATX all have the same format of I/O shield?
