I am getting the 800D for my new build and I am wondering whether or not to install the optional 3x 120mm fans at the top of the case. I will be using an H70 for my CPU. Input is really appreciated.

Yeah, there really is no reason not to. You already have the mounting holes for them, plus they will exhaust the hot air from the H70 out the top instead of dumping that heat into your case.

Great. Thanks for the input. I'll go ahead and put them in.

do you guys recommend using a fan controller to run all of my case fans thru, since there are not enough headers on the mobo?

Of course there are differing opinions on this, but IMO fan controllers are for weenies who want to brag about having high rpm fans but can't handle the noise.

Buy the right rpm fan to begin with, run the wiring behind the motherboard tray off of a direct lead from the PSU, and forget about having to manage the fans.

Yeah, I have three Scythe Kama Flow2 900rpm fans in mind. I guess it would be cheaper to buy 3 to 4 pin molex connectors.

Thanks. I'm sure your other 33 posts were just as helpful.

Is this suppose to be a joke?

Anyway, the general consensus on the 800D, if it's on the ground make them all exhaust. If it's on your desk, make the top fan slot on the rear intake and the rest exhaust.

BTW, despite my post count, I guarantee i've owned more cases here than 99 percent of the posters here.

Check this thread with a corsair rep explaining here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1516172

Whoops. My bad. Please accept my apology. Misinterpreted your post.....

I plan on now running 3 fans at the top, and thanks for the link to [H]. That helps a lot. Why make the rear fan intake? To help cool the radiator on the H70? Won't that blow hot air on my 470?

Well I guess I will find out, but I think I will be ok with the extra fans. Can someone tell me the best way to power all 6 fans? noob question, but I'm not sure if i should buy a fan controller.

I used a bunch of these strung together running 7 fans off of a single lead from my PSU:

8VTkD5UivyLlnlyktd83hpPRH_dYv-6_fJbdNzIoM0WhYBaIUmSuDBzPIQb6r2byD1evBjPMvPok39vvsQ3XklNYS74ZaF-CxlIWYEKoAh_dOIZrQvs-s1sEug0fYUIe-eV1pSbhLkXMEEG1I9LjwFZ4sfIeiSjPnuUU8AVFTgK4DP5IKDUrewl4P8uwx3lShtKj

They are all taped to the underside of my motherboard tray, so it's all neat and tidy. I have low amperage Yate Loons, so it's not an issue for my PSU.

The Scythe "KAMA FLOW 2" 120mm 900RPM only draws 0.30A per fan, so you're looking at 1.8A or for six. That's only 21.6W total on a single 12v lead.

I was in a similar situation, 6 fans for my two 3x120 rads. I just took two of those adapters, stripped the end of the wire off the fan wires, and put a wire nut on them tying 3 each together. Less clutter than having 6 of those daisy chained together.

I do plan to go back and put eyes on all the wires and land them on a little terminal block, that will be the best looking solution I can think of.

Yeah, there's obviously a bunch of different ways to wire the fans. The nice thing about the 800D is that no matter what you do it's pretty much a trivial task to make it look decent. I'd probably just run the fan leads through the top grommet in the motherboard tray like they did here: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1036/4/ You could just cinch them together above the grommet to make it look neat. If you really wanted it to look clean you could even sleeve the cables. Once I have the wiring behind the motherboard tray, I'm not picky about the way it looks.

I actually have a slightly different type of 4-to-3 pin adapter then the one I pictured. All the 4 pin molex plugs are male and female (as opposed to having two plugs), so I just have them all plugged into each other. Basically, I end with "bar" of 4-pin molex plugs with the 3-pin plugs sprouting off of it. It's nice and flat so it tucks behind the motherboard tray easily and only has a single plug going back to the PSU.
