Damn, can't decide, help me.

Option #1
$80 (after google checkout)
520watt
3 Rails
modular

Option #2
$58 (after google checkout)
550watt
1 Rail
non-modular

Both good buys, what would you get?

Actually, both PSUs are single rail. There was a misprint on the box and they just went with it to save money. For proof, look at Jonnyguru.com's forums, Redbeard had mentioned the details (a Corsair rep). The HX is a better build, but both are fine PSUs

wow, $90 bux for the corsair 550w. be careful with google checkout, if you abuse it, google may send a nasty email saying you can use it anymore.

can someone explain this rail business to me? it is better to get a ps with 1 rail or more?

The VX series is just perfect for replacing the Dell PSU in the Inspiron 530 (Q6600). The dimensions are 5.9"(W) x 3.4"(H) X 5.5"(L), whereas most ATX12V PSUs are 5.9"(W) x 3.4"(H) X 5.9"(L).

One rail is less of a hassle as you don't have to worry about load balancing. Multiple rails is rumored to be "safer" but that hasn't been proven afaik.

I bought a VX550 from Buy.com a little while back for $68.00AR for my last build. Excellent PSU!

Runs my Q6600 @ 3.2GHZ, and all the trimmings w/o issue.

Don't let the non-modular issue scare you off either. I've got a bottom-mount case and the cables are plenty long enough to reach AND do some good cable management (if you take you time with it); I just wish it were sleeved all the way.

These are great PSUs at great prices! I would keep an eye out at B&M CompUSA clearance. In my area they are at 40percent off which makes the 620 105 bucks here in Indianapolis.I bought a couple and there were a dozen or so left at that price a few days ago.
