Supposedly the "kit" is a tested dual channel configuration. If you buy two 512s, they may have slight inconsistencies (this is timing critical). However, good ram should not have any issues running singly, dual channel, or interleaved (another timing sensitive application).

Personally, I hate the "1GB kit", call it dual 512 for 2 512s, but then the marketing weenies would have 256 conniptions.

Some of us are actually interested in 1GB "single" sticks of RAM....

the thread was wrong regardless...1GB is 1GB not 2x512MB regardless of if dual channel needs that....

Also the thread died a month ago almost, thanks for reviving it.
