Hi, ok so relatively new install of win xp on a clean format and twice this week i get the little triangle "!" in my taskbar saying some dlls are corrupt and shortly later if i dont reboot manually it will automatically reboot, chkdisk then finds about 1500 errors and reports that it recovers orphaned files but then after it finishes "fixing" everything it reboots and will continually do this without ever letting me back into windows unless i format. i know thats a run-on sentence sorry. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows what it is, maybe harddrive failure of some sort? ive had problems with this HD in the past it is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160gb capacity. It cant be a virus since my antivirus which is one of the first things i install is up to date. So i'm wondering what the problem is exactly, i dont know if this is too vague a description for anyone to comment on but thx in advance.

Check your system event log.

You're probably seeing some Windows File Protection events as corrupted dlls are detected.

Look for event ID 7,9,11,26 (other than from print), 50, 51 or 55s.

All are indications of a possible hardware failure. Be sure your BIOS and drivers are up to date. If they are you may need to replace a drive or controller. 7,9,11s lean towards controller and will produce events in the 50s. Events in the 50s (like a delayed write failure) without any corresponding 7,9,11s lean towards drive.

Check your cabling as well. Try a different channel.
