Corrupted rar files?

The last 3 large Rar files i've downloaded (on a diff computer) all said they had corrupt files in them, the 3 files were pretty different in variety, so I'm thinking it's not the files that are 'corrupt' but something else is wrong. Not all rar files have this problem, only ones i've recently downloaded. Using WinRar.

Where are you downloading from? Since you say "diff computer" try downloading the same files on the machine that you're using to post this thread. What happens?

Well, they're pretty big files, from various places. The computer shutdown randomly earlier too, not sure if it that was related. I'll turn it on and try to use something besides Winwar...I forget what else opens rar files =x

are you downloading the RAR's from Usenet, or from some website? Usenet uploaders frequently also upload PAR files which are used to fix corruption that can occur like this.

If your other rig is shutting down I would think you have others issues to resolve. Unstable systems can lead to corrupt compressed files.

So is it porn, illegal software, or a combination?

If you're torrenting illegal software, I'll tell you there are quite a few out there that are corrupted (sometimes intentionally).

There are also "long file names" in use that will, on occasion, overflow explorer's buffer and cause it to crash.

.... without a little more info it's hard to say what the real problem is.

Particularly ones with memory issues.
