Corrupted Files

Hello, my computer frequently downlods corrupted files. At first I thought it was a problem with the host, but I have downloaded from many different places, and every once in a while I get a corrupted file. Is this a sign of failing hard drive? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

thanks!

If your hard drive were going bad, I'd expect to see more general corruption in other files, perhaps BSOD's, etc. I'd run a Scandisk and see if that turns up anything. If that's clean, I'd be more apt to believe that it has something to do with your internet connection or possibly your modem if the only files you see being corrupted are those you download.

I ran a scandisk, and found no errors. You say that perhaps my internet connection is bad. I think this might be possible, because I recenntly moved my computer to a different location, and that is when the problems started. Is it possible that my NIC is damaged? Or could it be something simple as a bad network cable? Anyone know how I could test this?

Thanks!

I would highly doubt if it's the NIC but that is possible. You may want to make sure your NIC is seated properly. The network cable is also a distinct possibility. Can you try a different cable? What type of internet connection do you have?
