Ok, so I was simply being nice, and replacing the 512 RAM chip on my Step-Mom's Mac G4 (which was bad) with four 128 chips.
As soon as I was done, I booted up the computer to make sure everything was alright.
It seemed ok until I ran disk utility.
It said "This Drive has reported a fatal Error to Disk Utility. If this drive has not failed completely, back up as much data as you can and replace it with a working drive"
Greaaaat. So swapped her old bad RAM back in, and it came back with the same error (proving it wasn't my RAM switching that triggered her Drive to go bad).
So, I got out my 250 Gig external hard drive (it's formated FAT32 for Windows and Mac use).
I created a new folder just for her computer, and dragged in all of her pictures and documents.
After 9 megabytes had coppied over, something went wrong.
All but 2 of the folders in my external hard drive went bad!
Pic
Notice how all of the Bad folders now have 4 capital letters, and even my external hard drive is now named EXTE.
I unplugged my drive, afraid I would lose the remaining 2 folders...
So, I backed up the important stuff on my step-mom's computer with my iPod (lol).
Now, does anyone know how to get any of my folders back?
I tried plugging into my PC, but the files that used to be folders just would not open, giving an error like "F:/MUSI is cannot be found, make sure it is plugged in or are coneected to a network."
Plugging it into another Mac just shows the same weird files (not even marked as folders) that disappear as soon as I click on them.
Now, does anyone know how to get any of my folders back?
There are sooo many aplications, documents, movies, and music files, and I can't afford to lose...
