corrupted,choppy,slow sound

I've been running into corrupted sound in a few games after a reinstall of windows (98se). Actually several re-installs. A couple of games - Janes WWII Fighters, Comanche Gold - have really choppy sound, like it's going really slow. The same thing happens with a demo from theproduct.de (check it out anyway - very nice). In the demo and WWII Fighters the video is also very slow. I haven't changed any hardware between installs or anything, but everything ran fine before, and other games - AOE II , Alpha Centauri - still run fine.

I've downloaded fresh drivers for my sound and video cards, Directx 8.1, etc, to no avail.

My hardware - if it's any help

SoundBlaster 16
GeForce 3 Ti 200
Athlon XP 1600+
512 MB pc2100
Epox ep-8kha+

I don't have any idea where to look for the source of this problem now.

thanks in advance for any help 😎

98SE will assign IRQ's to the different hardware parts you are using. Quite often, this "automatic" process isn't done properly, and you may just have IRQ conflicts. Some hardware don't seem to mind this, some do.

Verify the IRQs for any conflicts, via the "system" control panel. Anything sharing IRQs with your sound card ?

To modify the assigned IRQs, you can either force your mobo to assigne them (in the BIOS), or try moving your sound card to a different PCI slot.

Good luck ! (and let us know...)
