Corrupt Windows startup file on a XP box.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM


Is there a better way to recover from this than the MSFT suggested way?

Before you do that, I suggest trying to determine WHY you had the problem. Test the memory and hard drive for errors.
