Corrupt PowerPoint File

My husband created a very extensive PowerPoint presentation. He presented it, and then decided to bring it home to save (it was very good). Sadly, he MOVED it to a key drive instead of copy. This means no backup copy. When he got the drive home PowerPoint would not recognize the file. Said it was wrong type (it IS a .ppt) or corrupt. I have all current updates in Office (SP2 and later). I am running Win XP Pro SP2, Office 2003 SP2. Is there anything that will recover a corrupt PP file?
Any ideas gratefully accepted.

Try using Recuva on the original computer. If you are lucky and it hasn't been overwritten, you can get back the original file.

You can also try uploading the corrupt file to Office Online and Google Docs and see if it will open with either of those online viewers, in case there's a compatibility issue and it isn't really corrupt.

Hello!

You can implement "Reuse" feature of MS PowerPoint to repair .ppt file. This feature is inbuilt in PowerPoint 2007/2010. You can also try opening corrupt .ppt file in MS Word application to extract the data or insert the slides in a blank presentation.

Reuse feature is the most effective solution among all these and you can read the steps from:

You can also try Powerpoint Reader - a free MS utility.

OpenOffice or LibreOffice may open the corrupt PowerPoint presentation.

If this presentation is that important, I would consider taking an image of the memory stick's contents and work with recovery tools on that image.

I would also try running chkdsk /f /v /r on the memory stick (after taking the image).
