corrupt file transfers

I have 2 PCs connected via a crossover cable. PC1 is a P133 w/ 64MB RAM and a 20GB 5400 RPM HD. PC2 is a Tbird 1.2 GHZ with 256MB of RAM and a 40GB HD. Whenever I transfer multi-file RAR volumes from PC1 to PC2, one of them will be corrupted. This has never happened when sending a file from PC2 to PC1. I suppose this isn't a serious problem since I have always been able to use winRAR's repair tool to fix the corrupted files, but I was just wondering why this was happening. Is it simply because PC1 is just too slow? TaskInfo reports kernel32.dll at around 40-50% during sends on PC1.

Here are the possibilities:

#1 It could be the LAN card. Some older lan cards don't have the data correction like the newer ones do.

#2 It could be the crossover cable if it isn't made properly.

I would see if you can invest in a actual 10/100 autosensing switch. These are quite inexpensive these days and it will eliminate the crossover cable as being a problem.

You overclocking either of these two PC's? Occasionally an overclocked FSB will cause network corruption.
