Corrupt File System

This is probably my fault, but I'd like to blame Windows 7 also! I use my external HDD to backup stuff and I never had a problem turning it on and off in Vista, but Windows 7 often screwed things up so when I turned it back on I'd get a message to scan and automatically fix errors before I could use it (Using the Safely Remove Hardware function probaby would've been the smart thing to do.)

So yesterday I switched it on and get the message that the drive needs to be formatted. And when I try to access it I get: "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I go to Windows Manangement and the drive now reads RAW.

I did a bunch of googling but still not sure how to fix this without losing the data on the drive.

I'm scared, please help? (I removed the drive from the enclosure and it's now connected directly to the mobo. It's a WD2500KS.)
