I own an Olympus C-2500L, which can use SmartMedia and CompactFlash. I've decided to go with using a Lexar 128MB CF card and keep the 32MB SM card in the camera as backup, just becase CF is more durable. Since this camera doesn't have built-in USB, I bought a USB Siig CompactFlash reader (model JU-CF1012). A couple weeks ago I was taking pictures and suddenly got a CompactFlash card error. I was able to format the card in the camera only after turning it off and on. Then, whenever I tried to take pictures past the 13th frame, I would get the same error. I formatted the card in the reader and then in the camera, and got the same error.
I returned the CF card and got a new Lexar one (different model--the old one had a plain label, the new one was the 128MB 4X card from Amazon). Yesterday I took about 20 shots on the new card. I came home and pulled them off using the reader, and half of them were corrupted. I formatted the card in the camera again, but this time, I could not take any pictures past the 3rd frame.
With all the above, I'm using WinXP and properly stopping the device before pulling out the card. Questions: am I supposed to be inserting and removing the card in the reader while the reader is hooked up to the USB cable? Or should I insert it in first and plug the whole thing to the cable? Is the Siig reader bad? Camera? Card? Combination? I'm guessing if I went all serial that this problem would go away, but I don't want to spend 3 hours downloading pics every time I shoot. Thanks everyone.
