Correction : Madden 08 for PS3 to be at 30fps NOT 60fps.

According to Kendall Boyd, the producer, Madden 08 for PS3 will run in 60fps.

EDIT: There has been a retraction.
The game will run at 30fps, not 60fps as indicated earlier.

Not sure which to believe - the first website, which offered no quotes or source; or this one which also has no quotes, is written in conversational English by someone who is obviously not a journalist, but at least claims to have a reliable source.

Frankly I don't care, because as I said in the other thread I don't think 30 fps is a big deal.

FUD !?

After seeing Sony's response, Todd Sitrin, EA's vice president of marketing sports branding, replied:

"We want to make sure that we give the best experience we can on each platform. In designing a game, there are all sorts of tradeoffs that include frame rate, visuals, features, AI, etc. Football is an extremely challenging sport to replicate because of the number of people on the field, their interaction, and the scope of the environments. As you can see, every company making a football game this year made a decision that the best experience for the Xbox 360 included 60fps whereas the best experience for the PS3 was 30fps. We certainly believe that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are our football products are outstanding experiences and recommend that each gamer look at the entire experience, not just one aspect. We think they'll be very happy no matter which version of the game they play."

A direct quote from an EA executive is not FUD. Something may have changed, or the guy who wrote your link may just be lying. I do wonder why EA wouldn't release an official statement to combat a nasty rumor that could hurt sales, and instead tells one non-journalist. If this guy isn't outright lying, then that points to EA trying to make a change, but being unsure of the outcome.

Hmmm, trust an EA excutive or a producer who is actually working on the game. If you look at the website, the guy in the link went to EA's studio and then when to the ESPYs a couple of days ago. This is when the questions were asked.

Besides, that website is a Madden website for football game fans, so it's neutral. Either way, we will see.

We both know that the vice president of sports marketing for EA isn't going to make an official statement that makes his company look bad unless he's sure that it's true. It's not like he played it, said "this looks like 30fps", and then gave a press release. The people working on the game had to have informed him.

Like I said, this new source might be telling the truth. Even though he has no quotes, at least he mentions directly talking to a trustworthy source. If he is right, it's because something changed, not because anybody was spreading FUD.

Your post reads like you really really want this game to be 60fps on your PS3. God himself could come down from the clouds and tell you the game is 30fps and I'm not quite sure you would believe him. 🙂

Can anyone explain why, in technical terms, Madden08 (and perhaps NCAA08) are only 30fps on the PS3? I'm trying to decide on which console to pick up and this issue will weigh heavily on my decision. Anything else that can be shed on the topic would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance!

Which version of the game or which system? If I had both a PS3 and 360 I would definitely get it for the 360 mainly because it seems like the devs do a better job on the 360 versions at this point.

Technical difficulties on the part of the EA devs in getting the most out of the PS3. Seems to be a common factor in most of the now released multi-platform games that were released at approximately the same time.

Though DiRT is supposed to look as good or better than the 360 version.

Hmm ... believe an article from maddenwars.com or an article from 1up.com ... hmm really that is a tough decision.

/sarcasm

The PS3 hardware will definitely support 60fps. Other games have done it. The EA developers were simply unable to get it to work in time. You can't draw any conclusions from this because the consoles were released at different times. The most likely explanation is that it's taking more time for developers to learn and optimize for the PS3 hardware. If next year's games are still 30fps on the PS3, then i'll legitimately start to worry about if there's some failing in the hardwae.

Devkits for the 360 and the PS3 have been available for approximately the same amount of time. The only reason the PS3 came out later is because of the Blu-Ray shortages. Had nothing to do with devs ability to work with the system.

Buy 360 version since PS3 is running only at 30fps.

Personally, I'd go with the system that has the controller that I prefer over the system with the higher framerate. If I had a strong preference for a particular controller, which I do.

I'm going with the PS3 version since Madden is not framerate intensive, and because I greatly prefer the PS controller for Madden.

Still the 360 is much easier to develop for (or at least that's what they say).

Maybe Team Ninja should do Madden 09
