Correct Temp Probe Placement?

I am using an Asus P2T thermal probe on my Cu600 OC to 900. I trimmed the excess off the tip, so I can get it as close to the core as possible. The problem is, is that the flat ribbon-style part of the probe isn't long enough to go from right next to the core without the beginnings of the regular wire getting smashed in between the CPU and heatsink. Clear as mud? 🙂 Basically, I can't get the tip of the probe next to the core w/o the probe wires getting smushed inbetween the heat sink and CPU. I don't want to grind the heatsink, it's a fine Alpha unit. So what I did was mount the probe on the heatsink, as close to the core as possible. Will these temp readings be accurate? The probe is ~1/8" from the core, on the heatsink.

Any help/opinions appreciated. ..
