correct procedure for laptop batteries

vshah

Lifer
Once the battery is fully charged, i noticed the windows reports the battery as idle, not charging, and the laptop as running off ac power...so i always left the laptop in, to keep it fully charged. However, my battery just died. i was wondering, is it better to remove the batter when the laptop is running off ac power? i thought it wouldn't make a difference since there shouldn't be any current flowing through it if its idle...
this was a 4 month old battery...the day before it failed it was giving me ~4 hours (dell D500)

If its a 4 month old battery, there must have been somthing wrong with it to begin with. I've always had mine in while on AC and I haven't had one die in 4 months.

Dell will send you a new one, since any battery failures under 1 year is considered a hardware problem and is covered under waranty.
