The AMD website says something about thermal tape but the GC68 doesnt have it. I bought AS3 for the purpose.

Ive had some experience with installing HSF on Slot A CPUs but this will be my first Socket installation. The XP seems pretty fragile and I dont want to take any risks of cracking it or something

There are some instructions for the AS3 at www.arcticsilver.com. One end of the heatsink's base has a step cut into it, make sure that step goes at the end of the CPU socket that the CPU doesn't plug into. I'd recommend taking the fan off the heatsink for installation, finding a blade-style screwdriver that's narrow enough to fit into the notch where the clip rests, laying the system on its side, and using the screwdriver to engage the clip. Make sure to exert force only on the clip with the screwdriver, not on any part of the heatsink, since side loads on the heatsink would put leverage on the edge of the CPU core, possibly cracking it.

Once you have it clipped down, reinstall the fan gingerly, keeping in mind the need to not apply any off-center load to the heatsink if you can avoid it. I'd recommend greasing the screws first so they turn easily and reduce the amount of pressure needed, for this reason. Hope that helps :)
