Correct monitor resolution problem

My setup: Abit AN52 Motherboard with an Asus EN7300GT SILENT Video Card, which is rated to support max resolutions of 2048 X 1536.

I'd like to move to a 22 inch LCD wide screen monitor which works best with a resolution of 1680 X 1050. My problem is that I do not have that resolution available when I open NVIDIA's Screen resolutions--it does not show that as an option.

Same thing if I'd go with a 24 Wide Screen (1920 X 1200)

Where do I go from here? Thanks.

it is non-issue, because monitor gives information to card about available resolutions. widescreen resolution on a CRT doesn't make sense.

postmortemIA, I don't think I worded my posting correctly. I should have said: I now am using a Samsung 204T 20 inch LCD monitor ( actual screen size-12 inches X 16 inches) at a resolution of 1600 X 1200 and I'd like to move up to a 22 inch LCD monito using a resolution of 1680 X 1050.

The monitor will have plug and play capabilities...

All you do is plug it into the card and all those widescreen resolutions will come available.

You know how your card says it can go to 2048 x 1536, right? Odds are that you cannot select that res right now because your monitor is not allowing the card to go that high...

I picked up a returnable Soyo 24 wide screen DYLM24D6 from Office Max. The box containing the monitor stated: 1920 X 1200 Native Resolution. I unpacked it, connected it and found that the same resolutions were available as when the Samsung was plugged in--no 1920 X 1200!

Since you have an NVidia videocard, you can go into the NVidia Control Panel, under Custom Resolutions, and create the 1680x1050 resolution you need. After that, it will be available to select.

Or, uninstall the monitor driver, reboot, and if necessary uncheck the "Hide all modes this monitor cannot display" box in Display Properties.

Plug & Play Monitor driver should get you all possible resolutions a display can support - provided the monitor maker has correctly programmed the firmware with the proper EDID data.
