Direct quote from lady who is bringing a fund-raising packet around my office right now: "You don't have to buy something expensive, but you HAVE to buy something! *giggle*"

No, bitch, I don't HAVE to buy anything. And when you guilt trip me for not buying anything, you can go die in a fire.

I'm a cheery person, I swear.

That IS pretty ballsy. Around here, we get one apologetic mass mail and the orderform/catalog posted in the kitchen.

That's standard procedure here, but this woman fancies herself special, I guess.

My dad ended up making a rule that no boss could bring in stuff for their kids, only "rank and file" employees. Seems like it has worked out well.

Woman and kid come in. Both come around the counter and TAKE $100 out of my cash drawer. What do I do? Nothing.:'(

Around here, people aren't allowed to do that at all. If you want to do a fundraiser, you put the sign up sheet on your cube wall or office door ... No badgering people to get them to buy your garbage. It's nice!

I would have just picked her up and slammed her head down through the floor. Simple.

I'm glad I stopped selling Grit door-to-door, then.

Edit:

Mainstream publishers
Magazine selling kids
Consumer Reports
New York Times

...the fuck

I started with this ad from a comic book and then later I sold newspapers on Sundays at a street corner. I think I raked in 10 cents for each paper I sold and considered it a fair day if I made $20 for 8-10 hours of work. Working a corner for a couple of years isn't fun when your 10-12 years old.

We just got an email from our regional manager telling people to knock it off. It was getting ridiculous. We had an employee sending emails throughout the office asking folks to designate donations to an outfit that would use the money to pay for his kid's charter school tuition. His pitch was that in Arizona the donation is a straight 100% tax credit on your state income tax. Of course, he didn't mention the federal bite. We had a manager encouraging folks to enter one of those "Race for Dollars to Hand to Big Pharma to Find Treatments for Cancers Caused by the Products Sold by Their Other Business Units; Treatments that Big Pharma Will Then Sell to You for a Bajillion Dollars a Hit". He sent email after email, mentioned it at every meeting, and encouraged employees who couldn't/wouldn't race to sponsor those who could.

That sounds like my own personal hell! Wowzers.
