Goose Island IPA. An excellent example from the East.

Chicago is considered to be part of the East now?:D

I was wondering about that, as well...I find goose Island IPA to be no different than the standard IPA you can find anywhere. I like a few of their beers, (usually the ones on special brew at the bar), but it is largely b/c of Goose Island that Bells pulled out of the Chicago market. So, I have new-found hatred for them.

I'm a hardcore beer snob, and yet I feel no shame in ordering a Corona and lime at a Mexican restaurant. It might not be great beer, but it's hardly bad. Quite the contrary, it's a fine example of a Mexican Pilsner. Even Budweiser is decent beer for what it is (American-style dry light lager).

BTW, in reference to another post in this thread, Corona is made by the same company that makes Pacifico, Grupo Modelo.

<- drinking a Moose Drool right now.

I'm not a big beer person.. but the only beer that I have liked.. was Corona with lime... and also this german beer that this german girl gave me when i dated her in college and i think it was called.. "Warfeiinstein" or something along those lines (don't hold me to the spelling.. because it was about 3 years ago).. it was rediculous.. how good it tasted and atop of that it was strong as heck..

It is further East than Boulder, CO. The Mojo IPA is one of my favorites of the regularly available variety along with the Goose IPA. I enjoy the Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale more mainly because of it's limited availability. I can't get Bear Republic, Stone, or Lagunitas (all from California). Those are the only ones I like better.

Stone needs to increase their distribution. I have to go all the way to DC to get an Arrogant Bastard :(

In my experience, in terms of major label cheapo beer, European crap beer > American crap beer, which still doesn't change the basic fact that it's crap, only it might be slightly less crappy crap if it's from Europe.

I've tasted plenty of very nice American beer though, easily on par with the good European beers.

Corona belongs in the crap category by the way, with or without lime.

all beer snobbery aside, if i go to a party somewhere and there is a tub of corona bottles sitting in ice i'm not gonna act the Beer Queen and refuse to partake.

I'm with you on that one. The only time I wouldn't partake in free beer is if it was Miller Genuine Draft...only because it doesn't agree with me. I might even drink Coors...if it was free and there was nothing else available. I definitely wouldn't bitch about it.

I guess you've never had moretti, peroni...or any other beer made in Italy...and France for that matter. I don't hold it against them, of course. Wine is what they're all about.

Well, they're ramping up distribution like crazy. The new brewery is still new, so it'll be a while before they get to full capacity. That being said, I'm damn glad I live in San Diego.

Corona with lime is because it actually reacts with the beer, leaving a different result. It neutralizes something, I'm not sure on the specifics. All I know is if you have a corona with lime, and you have a working sense of taste, you'll notice the difference. It's more than just the regular flavor + lime.

I've never tried any beer other than Canadian beer and I like it. Pacifico eh?... I'll be looking for that the next time I hit the beer store.
