So we have our monthly work luncheon yesterday and we had corned beef and cabbage. I've never had it before. It was quite good. Today I had some leftovers, and OMG it was 10 times better! It's amazing how just having it sit for 24 hours improves the flavor.

Does anyone know of other foods that get more flavorful over time?

Corned beef and cabbage are absolutely awesome. It's hard making it for one person (me) though because there's just too much. A whole head of cabbage + 3lb of corned beef. That was all I ate for two days because I didn't want it to sit around for too long. It was really good though. The cabbage tasted almost... buttery.

There's still some left in our fridge. I bought ~5 lbs, only to find out that my wife didn't care for it, so I've been having my fill.

Chili is always better the second time.
Homemade vegetable soup too.
I also like to make a large batch of spaghetti sauce & it seems to taste better later also. The flavors meld together overnight.

I never ever reheat food that has cooled down. I find most foods to become better as they cool and the flavors meld. Obviously, however, this is not true for everything (burgers or hot dogs, and other things), but it is true for lots of things with heavy sauces, acidic tastes, or with a slightly high moisture content.

anyone have a good corned beef/cabbage/potatoes recipe? I have a good size (3lbs) or so, a head of cabbage, and 10 lbs of potatoes (obviously don't need them all)

wondering what a good way to cook them was

Swill it down with about a half gallon of beer, then you would have epic beer farts.

Thats because the bacteria and mold made it buttery.

Why don't you just make a can of corned beef and a cup of cabbage?

Oh you're talking about the chunks of stuff.

By the way, I found this. Corned beef is not traditional Irish food. http://www.irishcultureandcustoms.com/2Kitch/aCBeefCabge.html

Song at the end of the article:

GOOD GRIEF - NOT BEEF!
I just want to put something straight
About what should be on your plate,
If it's corned beef you're makin'
You're sadly mistaken,
That isn't what Irishmen ate.

If you ever go over the pond
You'll find it's of bacon they're fond,
All crispy and fried,
With some cabbage beside,
And a big scoop of praties beyond.

Your average Pat was a peasant
Who could not afford beef or pheasant.
On the end of his fork
Was a bit of salt pork,
As a change from potatoes 'twas pleasant.

This custom the Yanks have invented,
Is an error they've never repented,
But bacon's the stuff
That all Irishmen scoff,
With fried cabbage it is supplemented.

So please get it right this St. Paddy's.
Don't feed this old beef to your daddies.
It may be much flasher,
But a simple old rasher,
Is what you should eat with your tatties.
