Corned beef and cabbage

Any good cooks in OT this morning ?

Yesterday I decided to cook corned beef in my crockpot, she's been slowly stewing for over 16 hours now and should be ready for dinner tonight :)

Added during cooking ;

Spices

Parsley
Oregano
Garlic salt
Paprika
Old Bay

Veggies

Potatoes
celery
onions
tomatoes

Later on I will rapidly boil the cabbage so as not to lose it's flavor, what type of spices/veggies do you guys/gals add when cooking corned beef ?

Hmm, wow I haven't had that in years. I don't think my mom ever added anything extra to it. I think it was just salt, cabbage, and corned beef.
 

NEVER cook the cabbage with the corned beef !
It becomes soft and soggy and loses most of it's flavor, you must boil it rapidly 30 minutes before dinner ;)
 

Let me rephrase that, where the hell are all the EAST COAST Irish people :)

36 hours total cooking time, a crockpot cooks slowly, it's meant to :)

garlic salt? wtf why not just chop up some fresh garlic.. so much more flavour :D
 

Oh man, that was gooooooood....mmmmmmmmmm, I feel like laying down and passing out :)

Now the worst part, tomorrow will be flatulent day :p

Holy cow, I've done big roasts in 8 hours and they are falling apart then.

 

Corned beef does not fall apart like other meats when cooked for extensive periods of time :)

Same here, no extra spices, just let it simmer in the crock pot all day. mmmmmm
