We need to go back to the days when people who produce such garbage would be horse whipped in public.

Please lets be more politically correct Moonbeam---these are modern times---geneva convention and all---whipping is passe.

We need to tar and feather them---then ride them out of town on a rail.---another old American custom.

And "He's just not right" just means "He's just not white." Please, if I see a black dude at a party and just say "he's just not right" because he likes white women, that's pretty racist.

Wow. Talk about seeing what you desire to see.

I assume you are being sarcastic?
He goes to a playboy party, nothing wrong with that.
Then films a commercial in a church, nothing wrong with that.
However, when you put the two together it make the whole church thing look like a dog and pony show.
Why? Do single men in TN not go to parties with women on saturday night and church on sunday? I still don't see how one contradicts the other.

Because if it was a Repub doing it you would be all over it. But a Dem, no problem.

The ad may not be racist in any way, but it is absolutely a pathetic display by the RNC to discredit Ford. I mean what on god's green earth does that ad have to do with Harold Ford's ability to be an able senator?

Anne... see there are these things called "issues" and a lot of people decide how to vote based on these "issues" (no one P&N though)
So the ad points out the Ford view on some issues
Vote for Ford if:
you think he looks good
you don't mind him taking money from the porn industry (Playboy I guess)
you don't mind him hanging out a playboy parties

Don't vote for him if:
You think there is such a thing as "to many guns" and this is TN we are talking about.
You don't think you should pay taxes because you died
You don't think you should pay more taxes because you are married
You think the NSA wire tapping program is a good thing

about the Canada and North Korea thing, maybe there is some local thing we are missing on this one.
I would assume that if you lived in TN you would know all these issues through the debates and other TV ads. Remember this is TN, bible belt and hunting country, so the guns and the playboy thing probably play in a way anyone on the coasts may not understand. I know this INCREDIBLY beautiful blonde from TN who also has pictures of her with a deer she shot herself. Your first reaction is YOU went hunting? It?s a very different country there than New York or Cali.

The only reason I would be all over it if it was a repub would be the hypocrisy. Dems don't set themselves up as the party of no fun, so there is no such problem there.

Again, seems Senseamp and I are not the only ones who see the racial implications of this ad.

Here?s the CNN transcript:

Mr. Cohen: Secondly, I think the Republicans have to be careful, also, in terms of not engaging in conduct. And I was watching the - the Tennessee race, specifically. It reminded me of what happened in North Carolina with Harvey Gantt, a purely overt racist approach.

Mr. Blitzer: You are talking about the new RNC ad which has this white woman talking about Playboy and the - the African-American candidate, Harold Ford Jr., the Democratic candidate.

Mr. Cohen: It?s - to me, at least as I watch that, is a very serious appeal to a racist sentiment. And when the question is always asked, why - he would be the first African-American since Reconstruction elected to the Senate, you say, well, why is that the case? So, why is the South different? Why would they not elect someone??

Mr. Blitzer: So, you?re a former Republican senator. Is the R.N.C. playing the racial card against Harold Ford in Tennessee right now?

Mr. Cohen: I think they are coming very close to it, if not doing it exactly. And I think they ought to stop it. I think that they have a candidate, and discuss the - the issues on the merits, and not get into that kind of personal type of an attack.

Former Republican Senator Cohen weighs in on the RNC ad.

By that logic, when the Dems move to impeach Jr., they better go after Sr. too.

Well I have lived in Memphis for 31 years and some in the Ford family may have had problems, but Jr. has never been linked to any wrongdoing. For those that don't see the racism in the ad, in TN a white girl and black man still doesn't go over to well. Unfortunately, a large number of the votes against Ford will be simply because he is black.

I have lived in Tennessee since I was 5 years old. I remember being 14 and having a girl like me who was Mulatto (mixed). When she telephoned my house phone to talk to me, one of the most memorable moments of my childhood were my mother and father telling me it is not socially acceptable to have a black girlfriend because the cultures are "just too different". Never mind the fact that my mother is from Michigan and my father New York. I still remember the hurt I felt that day as my parents, before even knowing my friend, had passed this judgment just by hearing her voice on the phone.

And I still think about the absolute hypocrisy of the matter when just three years later, I started dating a girl of Asian descent and they had no qualms or reservations.

Unfortunately, I still think for many Americans, be it they are from the north or the south, east or west, there is some stigma attached to blacks that make them less suitable socially for any occasion. It is a sad but harsh reality. My heart goes out to people who feel this injustice on a day to day basis. And I feel sorry for those that fail to see it.

And of course, don't get me started on homosexuality...

EDIT: And I just want to clarify the whole Playboy Party "scandal". Ford went to a Super Bowl party AT the Super Bowl, which was sponsored by Playboy. There was no nudity, and there were no sex acts.

Oh, that's not true at all. Memphis is a very diverse city, and I would bet the large number of votes against Ford, are not because he's black, but because he's a Ford.

How is one any better than the other? Do we put all Sicilians in jail or never vote for one?

I didn't say anything about putting him in jail. ;)

Would you think it logical to vote for Jeb in '08? ;)

I guess you have to live here to understand it. Memphis is run by a mob. Many people strongly believe our Mayor is the biggest crack dealer in Memphis. The jail is run by gangs. I've seen cops sitting at the bar at the popular strip club watching live sex shows, which occur frequently.

On one occassion, news broke that the police were called to one of our city politician's home for a domestic dispute, and found crack cocaine. The politican called the chief of police, who then spoke with the officers on the scene, and demanded they leave the home without any further searching (for crack). The official reason was because the chief did not want the officers to go into over-time hours.

Memphis needs new leadership, and electing another Ford into office isn't going to change a damn thing here.

I couldn't give a rat's ass about the R or the D next to their name, crooks come in all shapes, sizes, parties, and colors. ;)

Well, you don't expect them to say Harold Ford is a macaca, so of course they'll be more subtle than that :D
It's racism with deniability.

Well, this ad is far better than what we're subjected to in the Western NC Congressional race between Heath Shuler & Charles Taylor.

This ad at least addresses political issues. As far as getting deep into them, hey it's only about 30 seconds. Whaddya expect in such a short time frame?

The ads we see over here are about subjects like : "he didn't pay his taxes on time", "he's not really from here". "a vote for this guy is a vote for Nancy Pelosi" , "he suuports big oil companies", "He says I support oil companies but he actually owns lots of stock in big oil companies" etc.

A lot of people here are getting angry about the politically vapid attack ads and saying they won't vote for either one.

Oh, about the racism card, puhleez. There isn't one. :disgust:

There's absolutely nothing racial about the commercial. In fact, I don't see anything wrong with the commercial. If I didn't know he was black beforehand, there is no way I'd know they were talking about a black guy.
