I am new to Linux and would like to know which of the above is more user-friendly and functiona, tell me your experiences. Which one is faster and so on....

Oh btw, are there softwares that are capable of running Linux and Windows @ once or together or something? Mind to point me out here?

Thanks in advance.

THey are both great however, mandrake is based on redhat and Corel is based on debian.

Debian has a utility called apt-get which literally gets the software for you and installs it flawlessly!

Corel and Mandrake take the hard stuff out of Linux and make things much much easier. Both have great install utilities as well.

Try them both....I use Mandrake.

I'd say to use Mandrake. I've played around with both and while Corel does seem a bit easier (not much), using Mandrake will better prepare you if you choose to move on to a higher level distro in the future, such as Slackware (what I use) or Debian.

I just installed Mandrake 7.2 last night... easiest install ever :)
You basically can't screw up... their website has a hardware compatibility list I do believe... Mandrake Website.

OK, can I install Linux on a FAT32 partition or do I need to make a Linux partition?

Thanks.

The installation screen will direct you to create a linux partition if you have free space and then format it. If you already have a linux partition, you can just select that to install.

You'll need to make a new partion. Well, you can share with windows but it's not recomended. Windows tends to crash a lot more than linux, and if they are on the same partion you'll have to re-install both. There are some real handy-dandy install instructions at Mandrake's site.

For hardware info, go here.
