Core2Duo Help

Hi guys, I just got a new C2D machine for my brother. I have never had to operate on more than 1 core. What can I do to have it running in the background for using both cores?

I know for single core machines I just install the startup service and it automatically runs as a service. Can someone point me to step by step directions on how to do this. Thank you!

It depends on what you are trying to have utilize both cores. For F@H you can either run the SMP client (note it won't run in background as a service) or install two clients at once. For Boinc it will do it all on its own, no more effort on your part.

I just added the -local and -config and had it in two different folders. That should be fine. Thanks a lot guys!

maybe i'll give that a shot when i upgrade my own rig to 2 cores. my brother is already bitching that his cpu is @ 100% all the time. thanks!

We'll look forwards to that😎

Btw does your brother know that F@H only takes spare (otherwise unused) CPU cycles (power) & that whenever another program or game needs the power it surrenders it?
He doesn't need to fret😉

I like the way you think though!

It will work on HT but it will not finish by deadline on one CPU (I don't think, maybe if it is clocked at like 6 Ghz).

I run it on my dual Xeon and they have HT. I read somewhere that it doesn't matter if HT is on or off with dual Xeon, the times are almost the same.
