I'm a newbie at overclocking anything so i'm not much into messing up with the BIOS.
My system:

Asus P5B-Plus
Core 2Duo E6600 @ 2.4 GHz
2 X 1GB Kingston @ 667 Mhz
GF 8800 GTS 640 MB

CPU temp(as measured by Ai probe): 40C while Motherboard stays at 41 C
CoreTemp tells me that it's more like 32 C for each core so i dont know what's with the difference.

Now I would just wanna ask for some simple pointers to get that processor at about 2.8 Ghz, if not 3 Ghz.
Do you think that on stock cooling and on those temperatures I can get it to 2.8 GHz or 3 with no probs ?

I'll be using AI Booster for this, it's an overclocking software that came with the motherboard.
It has the following options:

Under CPU
CPU Frequency: 266.00
CPU Ratio: 9

Under Memory
DRAM voltage: AUTO
DRAM freqency: AUTO

Unde PCI-E
PCI Express frequency: AUTO

Those are all the options available
All the AUTO stuff can be manually used, for example I can modify DRAM voltage and freqency to 1.800 and 800 MHz respectively.

Now i'd like to know what to do(what values to set) in order to get the processor to 2.8 GHz and 3 GHz and what do i use to test for stability ?
Also, what's the optimal temperature for an overclocked E6600 ?
Thanks very much in advance !

I'd stay away from OCing using anything but the BIOS -- those freebie OCing programs that come with MBs are notorious for causing crashes.

Agreed. It can be a bit dangerous to overclock with software. Safer to just stick with the BIOS and deal with all the restarts. Someone else can also probably give you some quick pointers to get to a modest overclock, but while you are waiting, I would recommend reading the sticky in this forum that goes into great detail on "HOWTO: Overclock C2Q (Quads) and C2D (Duals) - A Guide v1.5.2".
