Core voltage concepts?

Just put my first sys together:
8kta3 & 650-D mobo fsb set at 100- for now!
256 PC133 c2
GF2-GTS-32
old AWE32 SB
HP 8110i CDRW

I would be happy to run stable at 1Ghz, and getting ready to un lock L1 bridges. However, I don't quite understand how core voltage comes into play when choosing a certain multiplier.

So far, most posts I have read just suggest to start at 1.85v and see what happins (currently at default settings: 100X6.5 and 1.66v). I Have never done any tweaking-- so I'm not sure what to look for when a system becomes unstable. And can only assume that if I over-shoot CPU limits, then I can change back to settings that worked when I power up again?

I'd start with your default voltage and see how far you can go before you have stability problems, then up it a little and try again, etc. The higher the Vcore, the more heat to be gotten rid of. Always watch the CPU temp's when adjusting voltage.
 
Question:

Why would your suggestion be better than adjusting the fsb and/or multiplier?

From what I understand, when you change the multiplier-- a corresponding change in core-V will be needed..........perhaps to help the CPU to keep up with the extra cycles?

Not all chips require the same voltage at a given speed. You may never need to go above default. The less heat you have to worry about, the less "drastic" cooling methods will be required.
