All of a sudden yesterday my PC is crashing on me with the whole screen artifacting.
The only odd thing was the sound card not working yesterday until I rebooted, then it seems to be working just fine.
I unplugged the sound card but it was still crashing.
I've managed to narrowe down the problem to the 6800gt. I've set the 2d frequency to 200mhz vs 350(default for 2d+3d). In rivatuner the core vid shows 6.0 but it sometimes drops to 2.0 after exiting a game. Then running any 3d application crashes the pc.
About half the time the PC boots up to core VID 6.0. I never noticed this anomaly until the problems occured.
Do any of you set the 2d freq to be lower? And what do I decipher core VID values? WTH is going on?
