While prime95 has been awesome for stability testing,is it really the best as far as checking thermals?

I have been running cinebench 11.5 and i notice with a 4ghz oc that my temps won't really hit over 70 cel after many repeated runs, but according to coretemp prime95 puts a extra 40w load on the chip, giving me 78-82 cel load temps.

For AMD systems, Large FFT in the latest beta version of Prime95 is unbeatable in terms of driving temps/power/stability limits.

For Intel systems, LinX with thread count set equal to core count (keep HT on, but don't let threads spawn to them) and setting ram usage to "all memory" is unbeatable in terms of driving temps/power/stability limits.

Gave LinX a run, coretemp reported these numbers for max load temps....80,77,75,76,78,78 and the test completed with zero errors on a 20 loop run.

Temps might be a bit high huh?

Those temps are fine. Warm, but still ok. It is a stress test after all, temps are going to be high during the test.

Yeah, this chip is a whole other beast then anything i have ever used before, last time i ever tried to cool anything nearly as hot was back in 2006 when i had a 2.4ghz 533fsb pentium 4 overclocked to 3.5ghz on a asus p4c800-e deluxe motherboard lol,i ended up facing my tower directly into the path of a window ac unit which i set at 60 and it worked like a charm.:awe: It looked stupid but it worked better i bet then any water cooling kit at the time.

Kinda have died down on the extreme overclocking and stuff,4ghz to almost any one else is such a mild overclock lol and if those temps are acceptable, that is fine by me.

Welcome to the forums w0by
I bought the Intel CPU cooler and it was sooooo loouuuuud. It sounded like my machine was going to take off. I bought the COOLER MASTER GeminII M4 RR-GMM4-16PK-R2 and it's great & quiet. I'm running between 29-34c idle.
Dude o_O why on earth would you waste $25 buying an Intel stock HSF? Talk about throwing your money away, that $25 could have put you half the distance to a very nice $50 HSF for your chip.
