Core Temp shows 103C in friend's laptop at full load

What could be the cause of this? Incorrect temperature readings? The processor isn't reducing clocks or anything to counter the high temps either. It's a Core 2 Duo T9300.

My first assumption at reading the thread title is that the guy is thermal throttling.

But since you say his chip isn't reducing clocks, my question is how do you know? CPUz?

At any rate, is he using the correct TJmax in the temperature reporting software? If not, his temps could be too high by as much as 15C or even 20C.

CPU Z reports his CPU speed unchanging even at 103C.

I'm unfamiliar with setting the TJ.max in Core Temp. Could you tell me about that?

Try using CoreTemp or RealTemp and find out what the distance to TJmax is. The distance to TJmax is mainly how programs like CoreTemp determine the temperature of the CPU.
