I was just wondering how my system compares with other Q6600/Q6700 G0 steppings in regards to temps.

Currently I'm running an ASUS P5E (X38) @ 1.3v in BIOS. My Core temp readings under 100% CPU load are:

100% Load
52°C - Core 0
51°C - Core 1
48°C - Core 2
46°C - Core 3

Idle
35°C - Core 0
35°C - Core 1
32°C - Core 2
31°C - Core 3

General CPU Temp via PC Probe or Everest Ultimate is much less than those. Its only a mild OC but I was wondering how much is too hot for Core Temp readings on my model CPU. Intel's Processor Thermal Spec for a QX6850 is 64.5°C.

1. Would the Intel Spec be the same as a "Core Temp" reading?

2. How are my temps. compared to others and if I take it up further, How hot is too hot?

I'm running a Zalman 9700 w/ a Lian-Li case, 120mm rear exhaust fan & the rest of system seems to be very well ventilated.

I'm a noob but I can tell you mine. It's a fresh build still breaking in. I haven't taken a real serious look at properly OCing yet (using the asus windows tools).

Q6600 G0. Somewhere around a 1.15v VID? I think.
ASUS P5Q Pro
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 with AS5 ceramique (using credit card method, no lapping)
Xaser III case
Radeon 4850 arc welder right below the CPU HSF (I'm sure its not helping... but my case temp is about 32C-34C in 28-29C ambient temps (I have a rheobus with hardware thermometer and yes the room the comp is in is kinda hot)

I'm running a 3.0ghz OC like you. I couldn't hold a 3.2ghz OC as Prime95 was failing immediately. Even 3.1 is sketchy. So I backed down to 3.0 and its seems ok. Doing more testing tonight.

At 3.0ghz I am seeing temps about 5C hotter then you. 100% load = Prime95 on multitest.

100% Load
53-56C

Idle (after load, not cold start.)
38-40C

I'm not happy with these numbers with HSF I bought. I think I messed up the thermal paste while fighting with the ridiculous push pins. I plan on putting brackets in and reapplying the thermal paste. Maybe mildly lapping the cooler too. I want to get 3.2-3.4ghz stable which I don't think is too unreasonable.

From the reviews I have seen your temps are a bit high under load (42-45C under load for that OC seems reasonable).

Q6600 G0 @ 3.645ghz (405x9) with 1.33v on a Abit IP35E. I'm using a Thermalright Ultra Extreme with a push pull fan config in an Antec 900 (fans on medium) case

100%

core0 - 57
core1 - 57
core2 - 54
core3 - 53

idle

core0 - 36
core1 - 36
core2 - 31
core3 - 33

1. I'm not sure how accurate Core Temp is, I read this some time ago but I don't know how accurate Real Temp is without doing the calibration steps.

2. Your temps seem good to me. Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable at or near 70C. I don't know what the max is.
