Core temp of intel P III.

Got a 1gig P3 133 (13micro).

Runs @ high 70s,low 80s C.

FAQ @ soyo says its normal but from what I can find at the intel site 70c is max.

Not hot to the touch or unstable, most MB don't show core temps so not used to looking at temps so high.

That's waaaay hotter than normal for one of these. A more normal idle temp for a 1GHz PIII would be 35-40°C, and maybe around 45-55°C at full load, depending on case temp and ambient temp.

If it's reading that hot and the heatsink is not even hot you should recheck the mounting of it. It must not be on correctly. Make sure it's not on backwards. There's a lip on the side of the plastic socket that can interfere with the heatsink if it's on backwards. The heatsink will bottom out on this edge instead of sitting firmly on the CPU.

.13 u core?!! WTH I think you got some senors off or something. I got my 1.2ghz Celeron .13u core running at like under 100 degrees F all day long with a stock heatsync with fan running at 5v.

I have a 700MHz PIII running at 1.01GHz. I have a sensor inthe middle of the heatsink in contact with the core. I run about 90 deg F surfing and a max of 115deg F during CPU intense operations. If you were at 70 deg C it would feel hot because thats about 160 deg F. It would be too hot to leave your hand on it.

70-80C? Your chip has about a month to live at those numbers.

If the heatsink isn't scalding you when you touch it, you have it mounted wrong. Remove it, clean off the GhettoTech Thermal Pad, and properly apply thermal compound.

Edit - C1.3-T running passive (CNPS3000+) at 40C under full load in a tight case with one fan.

i have my cpu overclocked and it never reaches temps over 80F (room temp). even my old p2 350@412 ran cool WITH NO FAN jest heatsink

Yep I know what you guys are talking about,but this MB reads from a different place. It's a "core" temp which I guess is different from what we normally see. I know when I first saw I was worried,shut the system down and pulled the HS off but the CPU wasn't hot to touch. As a matter of fact I've done it a couple times just to make sure.

I don't know why soyo would set up this MB to read like this,I still hate seeing that number. I'm used to seeing a P3 system run around 30c.
