I have an HP Pavillion dv8000 with an Intel Core Duo T2400

I was looking over the stats when running CPU-Z and noticed that both of my core speeds were 997.5 MHZ.

They did pop up to 1828 MHZ when a started an application but when the processer was finished it dropped back down to 997.5 MHZ. Is this the way it is supposed to be? And if so, is their any way to make it stick at full speed?

Thanks

If you're not on AC power, the default setting is to throttle back the clock speed when the system is idle.

There should be some battery settings that adjust this, either a built-in XP setting or something HP wrote on its own. You probably just need to select a "high performance" profile or something similar.

I have the laptop on AC power and it has a clean, non-HP bloatware, version of XP Pro SP2 nstalled.

I switched the power scheme setting from laptop to home/home office in the power options panel and this has made the core speed stick to full speed.
Thanks

you could also google for the speedstepxp program that will do the same thing. I believe it works for the new Core Duo.
